Strongholds | How to Overcome Them

Strongholds | How to Overcome Them

Strongholds always lead us to isolation. We’ll come into hiding and if we’re not careful, we’ll only have relationships with people who instead of helping us overcome our strongholds they are fueling the stronghold. Meaning they will help you continue whatever your stronghold is and not help you overcome it. You need to get rid of all the negative people in your life and gain more positive ones. People who WANT to help you and WANT to support you to be a better you. As well as helping your walk with God.

Strongholds | How to Overcome Them

 Overcome The Strongholds

Galatians 2:16-18 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

Why you want to overcome the strongholds is the key. You will never get over a stronghold if the reason is to self boast about it.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

People who think they are better than everyone else, even they have strongholds.

1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Don’t do things for you or anyone else, do it for God. Don’t do thing s to please other people, do it because you want to please God.

John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commandments.

When you want to see a stronghold fall, you must tell God, you need him and repent.

Proverbs 28:13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Instead of hiding your stronghold, you have to ask God for his mercy. You need to stop blaming others for your strongholds and admit them. It’s hard to admit our strongholds. Until you admit your stronghold, you can’t beat them.

1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we confess our strongholds, God will FORGIVE us, because we are NOT our actions  say we are.  It’s like a brick wall, we have to take down one brick at a time, when we admit our strongholds. Then we will have nothing to hide behind anymore.

Romans 3:4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged.

What you don’t see you could be successful at  because you are just putting it off. Or you will wait til last minute, than boast about it or let your pride get in the way.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which looks right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Proverbs 22:2
The rich and the poor have this in common, the Lord is the maker of them all.

You will get nothing done with a lie. NAGGING – you will get done with nagging those near you.

Psalm 139: 23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalms 119: 9-11 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

Replace the lie with the truth. God will fill in the blanks for your life. Don’t ponder on it, just do it. If you want to grow with Jesus, you must confess your strongholds.  Put your heart in a safe place and value God’s word in your heart. Put God’s word in your heart and replace all those negative thoughts.

Galatians 5:16-17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

There’s never a stronghold that stays away. You have to overcome them more than once. Sometimes you have to deal with them all of the but, but you have to be ready to fight them and win with God.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

It’s always good to go through a stronghold with a friend, instead of going through it alone. To keep them a  float, hold them accountable with love. It will take commitment to beat  the stronghold. You have t o be willing to commit your heart and mind in order to overcome this stronghold. Don’t let your stronghold win. You can’t help your family with their strongholds if you’re battling yours alone. ASK FOR HELP!

I heard this song for the first time at Celebrate Recovery in VA and I just fell in love with this song. It’s from Plumb – I need You Now. It’s one of the few songs I listen to when I am having a bad day. I can tell you first hand, that as soon as you ask God to take your strong holds and put all your struggles, worries and pain  at his feet and he will help you. It’s like a burden has been lifted off of your shoulders. I’ve been dealing with these things for the last 5 years and the middle of last  year I was able to just be like, “God, I can’t do this along anymore, I don’t know what to do, HELP ME!” The next day I already felt better. It’s not a one time pray and all is well, it’s something you have to continue to do. You have to always work on your strongholds. They don’t always go away, but sometimes they do. But it’s 10x easier to deal with them when you have a great support system and God.
